The Green Mountain Audubon Center's conservation education programs provide people of all ages with direct experiences in nature. Audubon's programs are outdoors, science-based, interactive, and encourage participants to take age-appropriate conservation action to help protect birds, other wildlife and their habitats.

The part-time Environmental Educator is a critical member of Audubon Vermont's education team, with a strong focus in developing and delivering education programs for elementary through high school aged students. This position will help promote, develop and teach summer programming and will act as support staff for Audubon's summer day camp program. Reporting to the Education Manager at the Center and working a 21 hours/week schedule, s/he will also teach and advise older students and recruit and coordinate education volunteers.
Under the guidance of the Education Manager, develop and implement education strategies and programs for elementary through high school aged students that support Audubon Vermont's conservation and education goals.
Work closely with other education staff, education volunteers and interns to deliver programs.
Promote, develop and deliver age-appropriate environmental education programs for summer camps and other organized groups, targeted at preschoolers through middle school aged children.
Recruit and coordinate education volunteers to assist with leading school programs, vacation day camps and summer programs.
Assist with grant writing and reporting to funders.
Work with education team to develop effective promotional materials and marketing strategies for all education programs.
Regularly update the Center's website, post to social media platforms and help to generate new and robust social media strategies to engage the community.
Represent Audubon at teacher conferences, festivals and other public events as assigned.
Assist with other Audubon Center-based duties, including trails and facilities maintenance, as deemed necessary by the Center Director.
Interact and work with the general public, Audubon members, teachers and school officials, Board Members, other conservation groups and government officials. This includes verbal and written correspondence and fielding natural history questions.
Work with conservation programs to integrate education component into each program.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental studies, education, environmental education, natural science, outdoor recreation, or related field required.
Two years' elementary and middle school education experience with proven abilities in designing, teaching and evaluating environmental education curricula, lesson plans and activities required.
Knowledge of Vermont's natural history with a commitment to the conservation of birds, other wildlife and habitats.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills required.
A people-oriented approach with a team-focused attitude, and the ability to professionally represent Audubon to the public.
Experience in recruitment and coordination of volunteers strongly preferred.
Experience with budget management processes and systems a plus, as well as time spent writing grants and/or fundraising.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required.
Must be self-motivated, able to take initiative, handle multiple tasks, be highly organized with attention to detail, and have the ability to work projects through from start to completion independently and as part of a team.
Strong interest in working outdoors, year round in all weather conditions, able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), and travel within the community to teach programs as needed.
Must be willing to work flexible hours during applicable seasons, with occasional evening and weekend hours.
Excellent interpersonal skills, written and communication skills, ability to work in a team-oriented environment.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
